DERRY — Lent officially began this week and the Knights of Columbus are once again honoring the season by hosting fish fry dinners.
The fish dinners are held every Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the St. Thomas Aquinas Center, behind the St. Thomas Church off Crystal Avenue.
This is the third year for the fish fry meals. The dinners are very popular, according to Knights member Dave DeJulio. Portions are large and the quality is top notch, he said.
"You can't get any better than this," he said.
DeJulio said the fish fry is one of the Knights' best fundraisers of the year, raising money to support the group's many charities.
"We are a pretty eclectic group," he said.
Knights' causes include support for the local soup kitchen and food pantry, Special Olympics and several other community activities.
Knights also support St. Thomas School Catholic education, scholarships and global causes.
The dinners are affordable, DeJulio said, with no price increase over last year's cost and all are welcome.
Admission is $7.50 for adults, $3.50 for children. The menu includes fried white fish filet, fries, coleslaw, tartar sauce and a roll.
For younger diners, fish sticks or macaroni-and-cheese will be offered.
The fish dinners run through Friday, March 30. There will be no dinner on Good Friday.
