DERRY — A local woman was honored for her leadership skills as part of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
New Hampshire Ladies Auxiliary president Ann Pawlik was named runner-up Department President of the Year for her membership group during the 100th National Convention of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. held in July in Kentucky.
Pawlik, a member of Derry Memorial Auxiliary 1617, was honored for her leadership during the 2012-2013 year.
The convention highlighted outstanding presidents in 11 membership groups.
Members also had the opportunity to view the eight winning Young American Creative Patriotic Art displays and Buddy Poppy displays, along with attending events, sessions and rallies.
The national president commended the 2,000 attendees for their hard work in honoring veterans and supporting deployed military personnel and their families.
Members have volunteered countless hours in veteran hospitals and have raised millions of dollars to support the VFW’s Cancer Aid and Research Fund and also VFW National Military Services.
