DERRY — School is back and session and fall sports seasons are underway — regardless of what the thermometer says.
Pinkerton Academy athletes were hard at work Tuesday afternoon, working on strengthening and fitness in hot and hazy conditions.
The forecast promises more hot weather for the remainder of the week — at least until Hurricane Earl blows by.
The Derry Town Council approved a $45.3 million budget Monday night, 7-0. That means a 17-cent tax increase, up to $9.69.

Summer transfer station hours set
The Derry transfer station announces its summer schedule. Hours of operation are as follows through the summer:
Monday and Sunday, closed; Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Wednesday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (May 16 through Sept. 12).
