Jordan Wiskow, 12, is an incoming seventh-grader at Porter Ridge Middle School in Indian Trail, N.C. Jordan enjoys playing baseball, basketball and going to the lake. He learned about the Young Rescuers USA program from his older brother. Jordan has been selected by his fellow team members to serve as ‘team leader” of the 2013 team. He is also the team’s youngest member.
Zachary Wiskow, 14, is an incoming freshman at Porter Ridge High School in Indian Trail, N.C. Zachary participated in the rally in Belarus last year describing it as “a great experience and opportunity to make new friends with people from other countries. I would also like to see my friends from Belarus again, and make even more friends.” Zachary was an honor roll student at Porter Ridge Middle School and a starter on his varsity baseball team.
“Our Young Rescuers learn and compete in basic life safety exercises, enjoy excursions to cultural, scenic, and historic sites throughout Belarus and make lasting international friendships, all to the benefit of the U.S.,” said program founder and former U.S. Ambassador George Bruno of Manchester.
“We are very proud of our Young Rescuers USA 2013 team,” said David Tille, president of Young Rescuers USA. “They have worked very hard for this international competition and will serve as great representatives of the U.S.A. in Belarus.”
The team is trained under the leadership of Lt. Leo Roy of Manchester Fire Department and Roman Bastek of the Concord Fire Department, providing valuable training on first aid, firefighting and rescuing skills. The delegation will be led by Tille, Bastek and Karen Wiskow of Indian Trail, N.C.
Young Rescuers USA provides a program for young people that builds character, teaches basic first aid and emergency training and lifesaving skills, develop international understanding, cooperation and friendship, and develops personal fitness.
The team consists of seven members selected on a competitive basis to represent the USA at the International Rally of Young Rescuers held annually in the Republic of Belarus.
