Area teens head to Belarus

MANCHESTER — Young Rescuers USA, located at 15 Stark St., is making final preparations to participate at the International Rally of Young Rescuers and Firefighters July 15-27, hosted annually by the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus.

This program is available to seven youths from the United States between the ages of 13 to 17. The team departs from the Londonderry park-and-ride on July 14 for Logan International Airport.

The 2013 Young Rescuers USA team members are:

Holly Antoine, 15, is an incoming sophomore at Pinkerton Academy in Derry. Holly is a member of Chester Fire Explorers with the Chester Fire Department. She participated and volunteered with such programs like PALs, Just Like Us and FCCLA. Holly aspires to become a teacher or a nurse.

Anne Duffley, 16, is an incoming senior at Liberty Harbor Academy in Manchester. Anne was a first alternate on the Young Rescuers USA 2012 team and has gone through the preparatory training. She enjoys to art, learning sign language, and sees the Rally as an opportunity to learn and develop new skills.

Connor Martin, 16, is an incoming junior at Merrimack High School in Merrimack. Connor participated the Rally in Belarus last year and described it is as “the best two weeks of my life.” Connor is a member of the Manchester Fire Explorers. He runs winter and spring track, and participates in the Merrimack’s Tomahawk football program.

Collin Mulligan, 15, is an incoming sophomore at Alvirne High School in Hudson. Collin enjoys participating in various outdoor activities such as backpacking, camping and rafting. He runs varsity cross-country at Alvirne High School. Collin aspires to become a mountain guide and make a career while being outdoors.

Austyn Shea, 17, is an incoming senior at Concord High School in Concord. Austyn is an active member of the Concord Fire Explorers where he has recently been promoted to Post Deputy Chief.
