Crews putting finishing touches on roads

By Julie Huss

---- — DERRY — Roads in town are getting some finishing touches this month.

The Manchester Road widening projects is complete, except for some final striping work, Public Works director Michael Fowler said told the Town Council last week.

The final stripes are the end to a project that expanded Manchester Road from the Tsienneto Road intersection up past Ashleigh Drive, part of the town’s hopes for economic growth in that area of town, a tax-increment financing district.

Tsienneto Road is also getting new sidewalks, Fowler said, from Barkland Drive to the entrance to Jeff Lane.

American Excavating is doing the work with a completion date set for June 30.

New 5-foot sidewalks will be installed along with drainage work and some retaining wall installation.

“Other than that, it’s a pretty straightforward project,” Fowler said.

Fowler also reported that bids have come back for the town’s water/sewer extension work down Rockingham Road with American Excavating again taking the top job.

Out of six bids, Fowler said that company had the lowest at approximately $858,000 for the job.

Contracts were to be signed soon and work is scheduled to begin after Labor Day and end by Nov. 26.
