DERRY — The town’s mosquito control program is underway.
Crews from Dragon Mosquito Control began checking swamps, marshes, woodland pools, ditches, storm drains and other shallow watery areas.
If Eastern equine encephalitis or West Nile virus is discovered in or near Derry, emergency spraying may take place at all Derry district elementary and middle schools, Pinkerton Academy, Pinkerton fields, Hood Park, Rider fields, Don Ball Park, MacGregor Park, Veterans Field, Alexander-Carr Park, Boys and Girls Club of Greater Derry, Calvary Bible Church and St. Thomas Aquinas School.
The spraying schedule is based upon test results, weather conditions and other surveillance data. More information will be released if emergency spraying is needed.
Residents who do not want to have their wetlands treated can use the No-Spray online registry at dragonmosquito.com. Residents who want to have their stagnant water checked for mosquitoes can call 734-4144. The service is free.
