Check out child safety open house
ATA Martial Arts hosts a community children safety open house on April 20 and 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the studio, 7A St., upper level.
The open house is part of ATA’s initiative to help minimize the risk of child abduction through education.
“Children of all ages, genders, and races are vulnerable to child abduction,” local ATA instructor Mark Harbinson said. “Through age appropriate instruction, awareness of warning signs and ID activities like fingerprinting, ATA schools around the world hope to have a significant impact on reducing the risk of child abduction and victimization.”

Chinese cooking class planned
The Derry Chinese School offers a Chinese cooking class on April 20 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Marion Gerrish Community Center, 39 West Broadway.

Eat, chat at free community dinner
Etz Hayim Synagogue on Hood Road hosts a free “Elijah’s Table” community dinner on Sunday, April 21, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the synagogue.

Animal adoption event set
Birch Heights retirement facility, 7 Kendall Pond Road, hosts an event featuring local animals available for adoption through the Greater Derry Humane Society.

The 67th annual Miss New Hampshire Scholarship Competition takes place April 25-27 at the Stockbridge Theatre at Pinkerton Academy.
