---- — DERRY — Zoning Board of Adjustment members upheld a previous decision to allow a Hubbard Hill Road resident to operate a home-based gun business at its meeting Nov. 1.
Zoners previously voted, 3-2, at a meeting Oct. 4 to grant an exception, and allow Alan and Susan Fillingham to operate a shooting sports and collectible and antique firearms business from their Hubbard Hill Road home.
Kathleen and Steven Doyle, also of Hubbard Hill Road, asked for a rehearing on the case, but board members stuck by their original decision.
“I went back over the minutes,” ZBA Board Chairman Alan Virr said, “and I don’t think that we made an error in our decision.”
That decision allowed the Fillinghams to operate their gun business, something the couple said would be mostly Internet-based and safe for the neighborhood.
Alan Fillingham said his business would not be a detriment to any of his neighbors and no firing of any weapon would take place on the property.
“Absolutely not, under no circumstances is that remotely possible,” he said.
The Doyles submitted information from local real estate experts about possible property devaluation if the business went forward.
But board members did not see anything new that might sway their original vote.
“Is there anything that has not been heard since the first time?” Virr asked. “The answer to that is no.”
