---- — DERRY — It’s been 14 years and counting.
Derry’s Finance Department was once again honored for excellence in financial reporting, receiving a certificate of achievement from the Government Finance Officers Assocation of the United States and Canada.
The award honors the town for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for fiscal year ending June 30, 2011.
This is the 14th year in a row the town has received the honor.
The financial report was judged by an impartial panel to make sure it met the highest standards of the program, including a spirit of full disclosure when it came to the town’s financial health.
“The town is proud to have again received this prestigious award for the 14th year, recognizing the town for excellence in financial reporting to its citizens,” Town Administrator John Anderson said. “This independent, impartial panel review of our report insures the town continues to maintain the highest standards of financial reporting.”
Anderson said Chief Financial Officer Frank Childs and his entire finance department have a lot to be proud of, calling it a significant effort and great teamwork.
Childs said preparing the report requires a lot of extra work, but it’s helpful when the time comes for the town to go out to bid on major projects and for bonding.
He thanked his department for all their efforts.
“It’s been 14 years in a row,” Childs said. “We’re working on 15 years in a row.”
Town Councilor Neil Wetherbee said financial honor is not something to be taken lightly.
“Everybody works together to make this happen,” he said. “It’s a real credit to the community.”
