Wetherbee leads as Benson recovers

Wetherbee will lead council temporarily

DERRY — Town Council Chairman Brad Benson will be taking some time off to recover from recent heart surgery.

In his absence, Councilor Neil Wetherbee takes on the group’s leadership duties.

Benson was stricken earlier this month while on a family outing and underwent heart valve replacement surgery a short time later.

Wetherbee told fellow councilors Benson’s illness was a “serious heart-related event,” but not a heart attack as some had reported.

Benson had successful surgery and is resting at home, Wetherbee said.

“We are keeping Brad in our thoughts and hoping for a speedy recovery,” Wetherbee said. “We are hoping for a complete and full recovery.”

Town Administrator John Anderson said Benson would be missed and wanted everyone to send good thoughts his way.

“And slowing down (for Brad) will be a hard thing to do,” Anderson said. “I am sending my best wishes to the Benson family.”
