DERRY — Many helping hands helped make Derry’s Free Community Meals Network’s first community Thanksgiving feast a success.
The meal was held at West Running Brook Middle School on Thanksgiving Day. Doors opened to anyone in the community needing a good meal, or just some friendship and fellowship.
The crowd was under 100, but it was a good start to what will become an annual event.
Leftovers went to Salvation Army bell ringers and the local police department. Every diner went home with leftovers, too.
The network includes area schools, churches and other groups that collected donations and put on the meal.
A regular schedule of free community meals is held throughout the year at various churches in town.
The next meal is a spaghetti supper at First Parish Church in East Derry on Friday, Nov. 30, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
