Derry firefighters honor one of their own

Firefighter DeRosa is on the roster

Derry News

---- — DERRY — The fire department’s Battalion 2 honored one of its own.

The department honored firefighter Anthony DeRosa after he completed his one-year probationary training.

Firefighters hosted a barbecue in DeRosa’s honor.

As his probationary year began, DeRosa attended the Derry Fire Department Recruit School and was assigned to Battalion 2 with firefighter Jason Hall serving as his mentor.

That first year is a busy time for both firefighter and mentor as they have to complete extensive training and document that information in a special probationary manual.

The firefighter is also expected to attend more off-site training, including the IAFF Firefighter Survival Program, and learn all about the local battalion and its way of life and its traditions.

During the barbecue, DeRosa received his official Derry Fire Department helmet shield, presented by Hall. He also received a framed signed copy of the firefighter roster on his first day on a shift.
