Veterans will be honored Thursday
Area veterans will be honored by Derry Rotarians with a special night May 29. Derry Rotary Club and Derry Village Rotary Club join for the annual salute to veterans, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Derry, 40 East Derry Road.
All area veterans are invited to attend the free event. Call 674-8144 for information.
Copter show benefits Wounded Warriors
The New Hampshire Flying Tigers Radio Control Club will host a helicopter show to benefit the Wounded Warriors Project.
The show is Saturday, May 31, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Flying Tigers airfield on B Street.
Admission is free, but donations will go to support the Wounded Warriors Project, providing services to veterans wounded during military service.

Garden club to recycle pots
The Derry Garden Club will be recycling plastic plant pots and will use them in next year’s plant sale.
The club will be collecting pots on Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to noon, rain or shine. The collection is at the Marion Gerrish Community Center, 39 West Broadway. Anyone saving their pots can bring them to be recycled.
Learn all about sustainable eating
Derry Public Library offers a program for those who are interested in their food and where it comes from. “Sustainability Strategies: From Eating Local to Meal Planning, Strategies to Make Your Meals More Environmentally Friendly” will be presented by Joanne Burke of the UNH Speaker’s Bureau Wednesday, June 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s meeting room.
Burke will offer information on nutrition and how food production can give rise to wholesome foods to support health and well-being. Her research includes work in food security and sustainability, food costs, and health risk assessment.
