Letter carriers try to Stamp Out Hunger

Derry News

---- — For 22 years, postal workers have helped provide food for those in need.

This year’s National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger food drive is set for May 10. Letter carriers all over the region will collect nonperishable food items from postal customers.

Donations will all go to support local food pantries

The letter carrier food drive is the largest one-day food drive in the nation. Last year, more than 74 million pounds of food were collected nationally, feeding an estimated 30 million people.

Participating in the food drive is easy. People can leave nonperishable food items by the mailbox on collection day and postal workers will collect the donations.

Derry will join with other communities to take part in the food drive.

Supporters in Derry can either leave their food at the mailbox on collection day or bring donations to the Marion Gerrish Community Center, 39 West Broadway.
