Calling model railroaders to Derry

The Seacoast Division of the National Model Railroad Association hosts its Derry Model Railroading Fun Night May 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Marion Gerrish Community Center, 39 West Broadway.

Presentations include information on modeling historic structures, prototype track planning and modeling period rolling stock. All are welcome to attend.

DI plans yard sale

Pinkerton Academy’s Destination Imagination teams will host a yard sale May 10 from 8 a.m. to noon in front of the Pinkerton Academy field house on Bypass 28.

The sale proceeds will raise money to support the students’ upcoming trip to the global competition in Knoxville, Tenn. Coffee, beverages and snacks will be available.

The rain date for the yard sale is May 11.

Library hosts ‘Brothers at War’

Derry Public Library hosts a presentation “Brothers at War” May 12 at 6:30 p.m. The program is part of the library’s ongoing series of local history programs.

The program is presented by T.J. Cullinane, vice commander of the New Hampshire Department of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War.

He will offer information on seven sets of Derry brothers that were sent off to fight in the Civil War.

Genealogy Roundtable invites newcomers

The monthly meeting of the Genealogy Roundtable will be at Derry Public Library Tuesday, May 13, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room downstairs.

Meetings are informal and allow participants to discuss their research.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of level of experience.

Blast off into summer

Derry Parks and Recreation joins with 20 other organizations to offer a free event showcasing various summer activities and events planned for this summer in town.

The free event is May 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School.There will be community resources, games, and live entertainment.

Steve Blunt and his Rockin’ Kids Band will perform. There will be carnival-style games. Call Derry Parks and Recreation at 432-6136 for information.
