DERRY — A local woman is putting her green thumb on the state’s top gardening group.
Derry Garden Club member Michelle Mensinger was named the new president of the N.H. Federation of Garden Clubs.
She will lead the organization for the next two years and will have a theme of “Bee Aware, Bee Concerned, Be a Friend to Pollinators.”
Mensinger has been the state chairman of a bird and bee program for many years . She has presented programs on the subject many times at garden club meetings throughout New England.
She has been a member of the Derry club since 1997. Mensinger has participated in many programs and missions on the local front, including beginning a children’s garden at the Robert Frost Farm in Derry and other civic beautification projects.
She also has won many awards for her floral designs, including a blue ribbon and Best of Show honor at the Boston Flower Show last year.
Mensinger is a master flower show judge, a past president of the Derry Garden Club, and has held many positions at the state and regional level. She will lead the local club’s annual flower show in September.
A reception to honor Mensinger was held June 12 at the Frost Farm with more than 60 people representing garden clubs all over New Hampshire in attendance.
