DERRY — Local firefighters are enjoying a new table at the Central Fire Station, thanks to the hard work of Pinkerton Academy construction students.
Students enrolled in Pinkerton’s Career and Technical Education program recently donated a table to firefighters at the central station. Fire personnel came to Pinkerton on April 12 to meet the students and pick up the new table.
The table is now located the station’s kitchen and used by four shifts of six to seven firefighters around the clock.
Replacing the table was controversial among fire staff, according to information provided by Capt. Scott Haggart.
“Replacing the prior table came with great controversy among the crews as many stories of triumph and tragedy are shared at the table,” he said. “The center of the old table that was hand painted by one of the firefighters in the past will be hung on the wall with a plaque honoring all prior members who have retired from the department since the Central Station was built.”
Haggart said the fire department enjoys the close relationship it has with Pinkerton Academy students. The department offers students opportunities to observe work at the station.
