Derry Girl Scouts learn all about ponies

Girl Scouts spend the day at local farm

DERRY — Members of Girl Scout Troop 12351 spent a recent day at Follow Your Dreams Farm, riding and learning about ponies.

These brave youngsters were eager and willing to hop right on and hit the trails. Some may have been a bit timid at first, but with some great Girl Scout teamwork and gentle coaxing, they hopped on, falling in love almost instantaneously.

When everyone got back to the barn, they tried their skills at cloverleaf barrels. Everyone cheered as they rode the pattern and got their time.

After every Scout rode, they got to feel Shadow’s baby kicking. Shadow is a miniature horse who is due to foal any day now.

Heather Needleman is the troop leader. Helper and demonstrator for the day was Amy ONeil.

The farm’s pony leaders were Dana Caldwell, Maria Del Vecchio, Katie Winter, Theresa Vallieres and Jan Welch. They showed each Girl Scout how to tack up and brush each pony. Then, they took the girls on a nice trail ride.
