Local teens can learn all about TV production

DERRY — Local kids can spend time this summer learning all about creating a television show of their own.

Community Alliance for Teen Safety teams up with Derry's Channel 17 and offers a free media television training camp beginning Aug. 2 for kids ages 13 to 18 in the Greater Derry area.

Participants will learn to create and produce a television show at the Channel 17 studios in the Derry Municipal Center, while getting hands-on experience using modern broadcast equipment with trained professionals.

Campers will plan, write, direct, shoot and edit short TV shows and video blogs of their own choosing. The camp will include mini-workshops in camera operation, set design, lighting, audio/sound engineering, digital editing, character generation, control room management, producing, directing and TV hosting.

Instructors for the camp include local TV host Kimberly Pietz, Channel 17 staffer Larry Seaman, multimedia designer and educator Debbie Roy, Channel 17 cable coordinator Chris Martin, cable producer and director Sean Zajak, and retired communications professor and author Bob Comenole.

Participants have the option of choosing between basic two-day camp, Aug. 2 and 3, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and advanced four-day camp, Aug. 2 through 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. On Aug. 6, all participants will participate in a full-scale TV production.

Camp days are divided into morning and afternoon sessions, with lunch provided by CATS members. Preregistration is required. Register online at catsnh.org or call for information at 434-5251.
