DERRY — Members of the Pinkerton Academy Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America recently returned from the organization's National Leadership Conference. The conference, "65 Years of Leadership," was held in Chicago July 5-8.
Conference participants attended workshops and general sessions with 6,000 other FCCLA members from across the country.
Eight students from Pinkerton competed in Students Taking Action with Recognition events. To be eligible for national competition, students first must achieve top scores in their events at the state level.
Kelsey Magee earned a silver medal for her Focus on Children project on reading with preschool children. Samantha Croteau received a silver medal in Illustrated Talk for her presentation on the effects of various music genres on family relationships. Elizabeth Deyett received a gold medal for her Chapter Service Project Display for planning and organizing a spring trail cleanup at the Robert Frost Farm.
Katie Kluk and Ashley Winning received a silver medal for their Chapter Showcase Manual, a documentation and presentation of all chapter activities for the school year.
Samantha Magee and Amanda Gagne earned a silver medal in the Chapter Service Project Manual for their presentation of gift bags filled with baby items to the Upper Room. Bryce Williams received a gold medal in Life Event Planning. This event required students to research, plan and budget for a major activity.
Samantha Magee and Bryce Williams participated in general State Officer training. Samantha is first vice president and Bryce is president of the New Hampshire Association of FCCLA.
