DERRY — Birch Heights Independent Retirement Community will host informational seminars about Veterans Affairs aid and attendance benefits on Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
The seminars will be presented by attorney Mary Howie of Howie Law Office and Charles Balanoff with ElderCare Advantage. They will feature helpful tips for financing the future and enjoying a stress-free retirement.
Attendees will learn how they may qualify for aid and attendance benefits of up to $1,900 while living at Birch Heights. They also will learn the importance of legal documents including wills, trusts, living wills, power of attorney and health-care proxies.
Howie is a member of both New Hampshire and Massachusetts state bars, and the Elder Law, Estate Planning, Probate and Family Law sections of the New Hampshire state bar. She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Merrimack Valley Estate Planning Council. She serves on the board of directors for Holy Family Hospital and is very active in community organizations.
Balanoff has completed training for insurance and investments. He is a licensed insurance producer in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, which include life, annuity, and long-term care insurance products. His areas of practice include life insurance, long-term care insurance, annuities as they apply to Medicaid planning, IRAs and retirement income.
