Derry police hire two new officers, promote two

DERRY — The Police Department honored its own by hosting a swearing-in ceremony for two new officers and a promotion event for two veterans.

Officers Patrick Dawson and Ryan Hardy took the oath from police Chief Edward Garone in a ceremony May 4 at the municipal center.

Veteran Officer Eric Kester was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Officer David Michaud was promoted to sergeant.

Kester has been with the local force since 1999 and has had many specialized assignments through the years, including mountain bike officer, domestic violence unit member, field training officer, and instructor in defensive tactics, Taser, firearms, patrol rifle and special munitions.

Kester has served as administrative services sergeant since August 2010.

Michaud came to the Derry force in 2007 and has also had specialized assignments, including field training officer, accident reconstruction and technical crash investigator.

New officers Dawson and Hardy come to Derry from the Bristol Police Department and Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department, respectively.

Garone said the hiring process is extensive, but an enjoyable experience for the local department.

"One of the highlights is having the opportunity to promote young men and women in the ranks and welcome new members," he said.
