DERRY — Planning for the annual Derry holiday parade is underway, but there’s one big thing missing — a theme.
The parade, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 24, always has a theme, traditionally chosen by local schoolchildren. Somehow, perhaps because of a transition in the superintendent’s office, the contest slipped through the cracks this year.
That’s good news for anyone out there with a great idea. This announcement officially launches the parade theme contest.
Start thinking; the deadline for entries is Oct. 5.
Recent themes include “Holiday TV Classics Come to Life” last year and “Star-Spangled Holiday” in 2009. The theme must be family friendly, no scary entries.
The winner will receive a generous basket filled with gift cards and items donated by Chamber members.
There’s no age limit and group entries are welcome, but there’s only one prize.
Enter by emailing info@gdlchamber.org. Entries also can be faxed to 432-7938 or mailed to the Greater Derry/Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, 29 W. Broadway, Derry, 03038.
