Public Works Director Michael Fowler reported recently that the Beaver Meadow dam work is nearing its end after a longer than expected work time.

"It's been along project," Fowler said. "We didn't expect it to take this long."

Fowler told town councilors that substantial progress has been made on the dam in East Derry since it was reported as failing several months ago.

Construction crews have filled in the dam's voids with specialized chemical grouting to keep the structure secure.

The weather hasn't helped the time frame, Fowler said, as projects were slowed a bit by rainy days.

But the end is near.

Fowler also thanked the residents living near the dam for their patience through the construction work.
