The competition is intended to encourage and reward talent, communication skills, community service and academic achievement.

Bring on the holidays

Derry welcomes the holiday season with the annual parade hosted by the Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce. The parade is set for Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. and steps off from West Broadway, heading down to Crystal Avenue and ending at Hood Commons.

This year's theme is "Light Up the Holidays" with many marching units, bands, school and business floats and much more. Derry Village Rotary Club members will be walking the parade route to collect canned food to donate to local food pantries. Following the parade, the annual "Very Derry Holiday" schedule of events takes place, hosted by Derry Parks and Recreation.
