A new Miss Outstanding Teen reigns
DERRY — Lauren April of Auburn won the top honors at the 6th Annual Miss New Hampshire's Outstanding Teen Competition on Sunday, January 17, 2010. The Mt. Zion Christian School's Junior also won the Academic Merit award and the overall Interview award. Twenty-six contestants competed for more than $3000 in scholarships and the right to compete at the Sixth annual Miss America's Outstanding Teen in August in Orlando, Florida. Miss New Hampshire's Outstanding Teen Competition is a program for girls 13 to 17 years of age. It is the little sister program to the Miss America Organization.
The competition took place at the Stockbridge Theatre at Pinkerton Academy's Spaulding Arts & Humanities Center in Derry.
The award winners include:
Lauren April, Auburn — $1400.00 for Miss NH's Outstanding Teen, $100.00 for Academic Merit
Lauren Percy, Bow — $500.00 first runner up
Angela Berube, Merrimack — $400.00 second runner up
Kaitlyn Little, Derry — $300.00 third runner up
Melanie Konstant, Derry — $200.00 fourth runner up
Mallory Coulombe, Gorham — $100.00 Community Service Award, $75.00 Lamontagne Family Congeniality Award
Jade Morrison, Windham$100.00 photogenic scholarship

Woman celebrates 109th birthday
ALLEGRA BOVERMAN/Staff photos A birthday party for Catherine Dion, who just turned 109, was held at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry on Monday afternoon. She was surrounded by many members of her family and residents of the center. She is blowing out the candles on the cake that spell out her name.
Derry's oldest resident was pretty in pink when she celebrated a milestone birthday Monday. Catherine Dion turned 109 on July 26 at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, where she is a resident.
