Derry remembers Newtown victims

DERRY — About 100 people attended a vigil for victims of the Newtown, Conn., massacre in MacGregor Park Dec. 19, organizer Kim O’Connell said.

Balloons — pink for the girls, blue for the boys, white for the adults — were released after the victims’ names were read, she said.

Backmann Florist donated an arrangement of roses — white ones with pink and blue ribbons for the children, red for the adults killed, according to O’Connell.

The Rev. Christopher Gaffrey of St. Thomas Aquinas Church led the crowd in prayer and song, including “Amazing Grace.”
