---- — ‘Fill the truck’
is a success
As the holiday season winds down, there was still time for some generous shoppers to make a difference.
The Derry Walmart hosted a “Fill the Truck” for local kids event on Dec. 8. Items including clothing, toys and other personal supplies were placed in a big box inside the store, all to support the Salvation Army in town.
Advance Auto Parts, 10 Nashua Road, hosts Crushstation, the lobster monster truck on Jan. 3 from 2 to 6 p.m. The truck will help celebrate the upcoming performance of the Monster Jam at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Jan. 4 and 5.
Other monster trucks featured in that performance include Captain’s Curse, Thrasher, Black Stallion and Iron Warrior.
Crushstation will come to Derry and give visitors a chance to get autographs and photos.
Seniors can enjoy ‘snow’ day’
Derry seniors are invited to enjoy a “Snow Day” event on Jan. 16 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Alexander-Carr Lodge off Pierce Avenue.
The lodge will be transformed into a winter wonderland complete with music and food. Guests are asked to bring a dish to share.
Admission is free but limited to adults, 50 years of age and older while tickets last. Register early by calling Derry Parks and Recreation at 432-6136. Non-Derry residents can begin registering on Jan. 2 if space is available.
NEXT Charter School enrollment
The NEXT Charter School enrollment period begins Jan. 2. Students interested in enrolling in the town’s first charter high school can apply through nextcharterschool.org.
The school will be led by co-directors Justin Krieger and Joe Crawford, both currently serving as assistant principals in the Derry School District.
The school will also have a board of directors made up of community members, school officials and administrators.
The first gathering for Writers’ Night Out is set for Jan. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the new Cask and Vine, 1 East Broadway.
The night gives local writers a chance to meet and mingle with others in their area.
The group will meet regularly. For information, contact Cynthia Neale at 329-4249.
Cask and Vine is a new business on Broadway offering food, wine and special events.
