Filing period ends Friday for Town Council, School Board

DERRY — Interested candidates still have time to throw their names in the hat for open positions on Derry's Town Council and School Board.

Three seats are up for grabs on both the School Board and Town Council in 2010. The filing period ends Friday for anyone interested in running for office.

As of Wednesday afternoon, two names were on the list for the open councilor-at-large seat presently held by council Chairman Rick Metts, who had not announced whether he would seek another term.

Doug Newell and Jim Webb plan to run for the at-large council seat.

Incumbent District 4 Councilor Brian Chirichiello is seeking another term. District 2 Councilor Brent Carney said he will not seek another term.

On the school side, three open spots are up for re-election this March with all three incumbents — Brenda Willis, Kevin Gordon and Ken Linehan — seeking another term on the board.

Willis and Gordon are completing nine years on the board.

Anyone interested in filing for open Town Council positions can file with the town clerk's office at the Derry Municipal Center on Manning Street. Anyone interested in filing for open School Board seats can contact the School Superintendent's Office, 18 South Main St.
