Art show brings culture to the commons

Art show celebrates human form

LONDONDERRY — Hundreds of residents came out to the town commons last week to get a picture of artists throughout the state.

The eighth annual Art on the Commons showcased about 30 artists on Saturday. The theme this year was “Bare Essentials: A Celebration of the Human Form.”

The theme winners were Maria Simms of Kensington, Barbara Scott of Londonderry and Steve Sullivan of Londonderry.

In the painting category, Harriet Winchester of Nashua took first, followed by Phil Bean of Milford in second and Michael James Toomy of Londonderry in third.

In the drawing category, Tina Gagnon of Salem was first, Barbara Scott of Londonderry was second and Brendon Keagan of Lowell was third.

For eclecticco artists, Jesse O’Brien of Londonderry took first place, followed by Hanna Phelps of New Boston in second and Laura Dionne of Litchfield in third.

Paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings and multimedia art were featured.

“The event was well attended,” said Elaine Farmer, chairman of the Londonderry Arts Council. “It was a great turnout.”
