Winter farmers market to open Dec. 7

First day is Dec. 7 at Upper Village Hall

---- — DERRY — The farmers market is making its move.

The Derry Farmers Market begins its winter schedule Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Upper Village Hall, 58 East Derry Road.

Markets continue the first and third Saturday of each month through March.

This is the fourth season for the market.

The market ended its official relationship with the town earlier this year after the tTown Council voted to cut the market budget from $28,500 to $5,000 for this fiscal year.

At that time, manager Beverly Ferrante said the market would be making its move to East Derry to call the historic Upper Village Hall its new home. That includes next summer’s market as well.

The hall and its volunteer corps, the East Derry Village Improvement Society, will be the market’s official sponsor.

This summer’s market brought in up to 30 vendors, some coming every week, some only signing on for part of the season.

Winter vendors will include some of the regulars from past markets, offering handmade crafts, foods and other seasonal products.

The market will help promote the hall and its mission to be a community focal point and location for concerts, events and gatherings. Many groups have called the building home. The space is also available for rentals and other special community events.

Ferrante called the move to East Derry a good partnership.
