Train to be Santa’s little helper
Derry Public Library hosts an elf training workshop Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. Children, ages 4 to 8, are invited to find out what it takes to be one of Santa’s elves.
There will be lessons on making elf hats, cookie decorating and other crafts. Children will graduate from the program with an official elf certificate. Call 432-6140 for information.
Chamber invites stores to decorate
The Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce hosts a storefront decorating contest. Businesses are invited to decorate their office or retail space.
Judging is Dec. 7 and winners will be announced later that day at the Chamber’s tree-lighting ceremony at Burlington Self Storage at 4 Linlew Drive. The ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m.

Firefighters help Toys for Tots
The deadline is Dec. 11 for donations of toys for the Derry firefighters’ Toys for Tots drive.
New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Central Fire Station, 131 East Broadway. The drive is hosted by the Professional Firefighters of Derry Local 4392.
Chamber Wreath Stroll is Dec. 10
The Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber hosts the second annual Wreath Stroll Dec. 10 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Cask and vine, 1 East Broadway.
Local organizations and businesses will donate a decorated wreath to put up for auction. Proceeds benefit the Derry News Santa Fund.
Toy collection is now underway
The Derry Community Fund is collecting new toys to donate to children in need this holiday season. The Marion Gerrish Community Center on West Broadway has a collection box.
People can drop off toys to support the Community Fund’s longstanding mission in the Greater Derry area to help those needing assistance this holiday season. Visit dnhcf.org for information.
