---- — DERRY — This is the 24th annual year for the town’s Derryfest celebration, joining together businesses, organizations and community groups for a day of fun, food and town spirit.
The theme for this year’s festival is “Come See What’s New.” The day-long celebration is set for Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at MacGregor Park.
There will be crafts, booths, community information and entertainment on the park stage.
Some returning favorites this year include a live animal show featuring Wildlife Encounters. A giant tortoise will be roaming around the park to greet Derryfest visitors.
Derry’s own Red Star Twirlers will also take the stage, as well as the Bel Airs Doo Wop group.
On the night before Derryfest, Derry Village Rotary hosts its annual spaghetti supper at Pinkerton Academy’s senior cafe from 5 to 7 p.m. The “Greater Derry’s Got Talent” top 10 contestants will perform at the Derry Opera House, also the night before, with the top three winners earning an opportunity to sing the next day at Derryfest.
Tickets for the Sept. 20 talent show are $8 for adults and $6 for students. The show begins at 7 p.m. Audience members will receive a vote ticket to vote for their favorite performers.
On Derryfest morning, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 63 East Broadway, hosts the annual Derryfest breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. The menu includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, muffins, coffee and juice. A free-will donation will be accepted.
Shuttle buses will run on Derryfest day from various parking locations around town. Visit derryfest.org for information.
