Derry Public Library hosts program on local foods

DERRY — Derry Public Library hosts a food fest “Feasting From Our Local Farms: The Benefits of Eating Locally and Seasonally” on Sept. 25 at 6:15 p.m.

The modern movement of eating locally grown and raised seasonal fare has its roots deeply planted in many historic kitchens.

Join with Creative Feast chef Liz Barbour as she explores the modern journey back to the local farm with a discussion about the benefits of buying local foods and eating within the season.

Enjoy a cooking demonstration of recipes featuring locally harvested seasonal ingredients and sample the distinct flavors of your local harvest. Learn two recipes and try samples, available for all to taste.

Barbour has been cooking professionally in the Boston area since 1992 and started Liz Barbour’s Creative Feast in 2004. She built her cooking career in a variety of Boston’s catering and restaurant settings. After starting her family, Liz reentered the food world as an instructor, sharing her professional experiences and knowledge with her students and clients through cooking demonstration classes, in-home cooking parties, and boutique-style private catering.

Barbour’s cooking demonstrations and recipes have been featured on television and her recipes are featured in various publications. She also offers catering and cooking courses from her Creative Feast business.

Because handouts and food samples will be offered, registration is required and limited to the first 35 people who sign up.
