DERRY — Southern New Hampshire Youth Ballet presents "Fairy Houses-The Journey," based on the award-winning Fairy Houses children's series by New Hampshire author and illustrator Tracy Kane. It will be performed at the Stockbridge Theatre at Pinkerton Academy in a matinee performance Saturday, March 13, at 2 p.m.
They will present a short ballet performance about the magical migration of the monarch butterfly, based on Kane's book "Fairy Flight," another book in the Fairy Houses series.
Every parent wants to expose their children to arts, and the wonder and beauty of nature. Here's a chance to do all these things and more all in one afternoon.
"A few years back, we began staging a ballet based on "Fairy Houses," the first book in the series by Tracy Kane, and it was so well received that we decided to stage a ballet on another one of her books," said Patricia Lavoie, the ballet's artistic director.
This performance is set to music by Mussorgsky, Offenbach, Debussy and Khatchaturian, and is a collaborative work choreographed by Lavoie and artist-in-residence Melissa Desrosiers.
Immediately following the performance, the entire cast of butterflies and fairies will be available for a meet-and-greet with the audience. Kane will be at the performance to sign and sell autographed books.
"This is the only piece we will perform, so there won't be any intermissions," Lavoie said. "That way, the kids can really enjoy themselves, as well as the parents."
This matinee performance is tailored for toddlers, budding ballerinas and nature lovers of all ages.
Tickets are on sale now — $9 for children, $14 for adults at the Stockbridge Theatre box office. Call 437-5210 or visit www.stockbridgetheatre.com.
