Rail Trail grand opening set
The grand opening celebration for the Derry Rail Trail is set for June 2. A ribbon-cutting is planned for 11 a.m. The Derry Farmer's Market is scheduled to be open that day behind the former Depot, now Sabatino's North Restaurant, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Rail trail supporters hosted a cleanup event recently on the trail system in Derry and report a great turnout of volunteers coming out to help spruce up the area, including members of the Pinkerton Academy Student Council, who painted a fence along the trail.
Firefighters graduate from Academy
Sean L. Beinhaur, Gregory N. Laro, and Ronald E. Sebastian of the Derry Fire Department graduated from the Fire and Emergency Officers Course at the New Hampshire Fire Academy on May 4.
The three-week course prepares officer candidates for their daily roles as a fire company officer. In addition to the 120 hours of class and field work, participants were expected to complete 12 research projects focused on their own fire department.
Courses in the program included functional leadership, incident command, budgeting issues, strategic planning, firefighting strategy and tactics, accountability and responsibility. The mission of the New Hampshire Fire Academy is to increase the capability of fire and emergency services through the application of the best methodologies, techniques, research, education, and practice of fire and emergency medical services.
