Derry News Santa Fund gears up for holidays

It’s the time to start thinking about how to give the best gifts this season.

For all the people in the Greater Derry area who are struggling to make ends meet or put enough food on the table, it’s also a time of great stress and hardship.

The Derry News Santa Fund is here to help.

Every year, the Santa Fund raises money to help those in the area who need it most helping with the most basic needs like clothing, food and other assistance for individuals and families.

One hundred percent of the money raised goes directly to the Derry Community Fund, a holiday institution in the area for more than 40 years, that helps countless people at the holidays and all year long.

This year the need is great.

The Community Fund is currently collecting food donations through the Marion Gerrish Community Center and will begin collecting new, unwrapped toys this month.

Schools and other organizations are stepping up to help with donations for the holidays.

Tax-deductible donations can be sent to: Derry News Santa Fund, P.O. Box 307, Derry, 03038, or dropped off at the newspaper office at 46 West Broadway.
