Ocean State Job Lot now open in Derry

DERRY — Ocean State Job Lot is open for business.

The new store is located at 30 Manchester Road, the site of the former Walmart building. It is the 10th to be opened in the Granite State and Ocean State’s 108th overall.

Town officials, store management, Chamber of Commerce officials and other community guests helped with the grand opening and ribbon-cutting celebration held March 14.

“We have been busy training new associates, stocking the shelves with our everyday and seasonal brand-name merchandise, and readying the store for the past months in preparation of our grand opening,” manager Marcel Cote said.

The 41,000-square-foot facility will employ 30 full-time and part-time sales, operations and customer service workers.

In addition to the official opening, Ocean State Job Lot will continue its quest to be a strong community partner and will make donations to the NH Food Bank and also Honor Flight New England, which flies World War II veterans to Washington, D.C.

“Thanks to the generosity of Job Lot customers throughout the area who gave at all the registers during the 2012 holiday season, along with matching contributions from our Charitable Foundation, these two donations were made possible,” Cote said.

A truckload of food was set to be delivered to the NH Food Bank following the grand opening event.

About 1 million pounds of food have been donated already to the Food Bank. Ocean State has also raised about $250,000 to support Honor Flight.

Ocean State’s regional manager Dan Reed said being in Derry was a good move for the company.

“This is one of our best looking stores and an A-plus effort,” Reed said. “New Hampshire has been good to us.”

Derry Town Administrator John Anderson said having Ocean State take over the old Walmart facility is part of the town’s continuing efforts to bring retail success to that area of town on Manchester Road.

“This is one more piece of our puzzle for our retail development in Derry,” Anderson said.

Opening day festivities also included Derry police and fire personnel offering tours of their mobile command center, raffles, free gifts and samples. The Derry store will be open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
