Soup's on for annual Potter's Bowl

Guests fill up and support Community Caregivers

DERRY — It was a Super Bowl weekend in more ways than one and it wasn’t just football making fans happy.

Soup and chowder lovers came out for the eighth annual Potter’s Bowl event last weekend to enjoy a wide variety of homemade offerings, all to support Community Caregivers of Greater Derry.

The Potter’s Bowl was held at Promises to Keep and attracted about 200 faithful fans to enjoy a “souper” night to help a good local cause.

Patrons could choose a handcrafted bowl and then could fill it with soup — all they could eat.

Bowls were donated by local artisans and students from area schools. More than 50 items went on the silent auction block.

Members of Derry’s Red Star Twirlers waited tables while soup lovers lined up to sample the variety of soups.

All proceeds went to support Caregivers’ mission to reach out through its volunteer network to help the elderly, disabled and homebound maintain their independence.

Soups were donated by local restaurants and businesses.
