Upper Room hosts food donation drive

Derry News

---- — DERRY — The Upper Room, a Family Resource Center, is hosting a food drive all during the month of February.

The food collection will help stock the Upper Room’s food pantry and help local families in need by offering nutritious options.

The Upper Room’s pantry is open weekly.

More than 120 families are fed each month by the Upper Room’s food pantry. The agency has seen an increase in the need for additional donations.

“We always see a surge in generous donations around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, but contributions quickly taper off with the beginning of the new year,” Upper Room executive director Kimberly Bavaro said. “Given that hunger is a year-round concern for many families, we are working to make sure we have an adequate supply to address their needs.”

Items needed to stock the pantry include pasta, sauce, cereal, peanut butter, tuna, beans, macaroni and cheese, and ready-to-make dinners.

The Upper Room will accept donations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at the Tsienneto Road facility. A marked donation box will be located in the agency’s back entrance vestibule.

The food drive is part of the Upper Room’s monthly donation drive in 2013. Every month a new category items needed will be collected from school supplies to program snacks and personal care items.
