at Birch Heights

Birch Heights invites the community to attend some sweet and healthy events in February.

On Feb. 8, from 11 to 11:45 a.m., “Let’s Talk Seniors - Heart Health” is scheduled. On Feb. 9, a chocolate extravaganza takes place from 2 to 3 p.m.

Fill up on pancakes at Feb. 12 supper

St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 63 East Broadway, hosts its sixth annual Shrove Tuesday pancake supper on Feb. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the church vestry.

The dinner is to honor the beginning of the Lenten season. A free-will offering will be accepted. All are welcome.

Frost Festival is coming up Feb. 15-17

The 14th annual Frost Festival is coming up Feb. 15-17 and includes a weekend of events both indoors and out.

The weekend kicks off with a spaghetti dinner hosted by the Derry Village Rotary Club on Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. in the Gilbert H. Hood Middle School cafeteria.

Other weekend events include a magic show, animal show, and arts and crafts. On Feb. 16, a Dueling Pianos event is held at Promises to Keep at 6:30 p.m. Other weekend events include a snowshoe race, a winter farmers market and a day of winter events on Feb. 17, including sledding, skating, ice fishing demos, and ice sculptures. Fresh Air Fund needs host families

The Fresh Air Fund is already thinking of the summer and seeks host families in this area who might want to open their homes to a city child this year.

Every summer, children ages 6 to 18 arrive in this area to spend vacation time with families.

Since 1877, the Fresh Air Fund has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.7 million New York City children. For information on becoming a host family, call 679-3663 or visit

T-ball registrations set to begin March 4

The Derry Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the spring T-ball program beginning March 4 and ending April 14. Registrations will be accepted at the Parks and Recreation office at Veterans Hall on West Broadway daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on April 10 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Any child ages 4 to 7 can participate in the program. A birth certificate is required to register.

The program begins in May with games and practices scheduled two days a week during the season.

Kids Coop presents ‘Aladdin Jr.’ in March

Kids Coop Theatre presents Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” on stage at the Derry Opera House, 29 West Broadway, on March 8 at 7 p.m. and March 9 at 1 and 7 p.m.

The show features a youth cast taking on the roles from the Disney animated movie including Aladdin, Princess Jasmine and the Genie all singing the favorite songs including “A Whole New World,” and “Friend Like Me.”

Big Apple Circus trip planned for April 25

Derry Parks and Recreation hosts a spring trip to see the Big Apple Circus in Boston on April 25.

After the show, enjoy a trip to the Prudential Center for shopping, eating and other sightseeing. Registration for Derry residents is underway now and costs $20. Nonresidents can register beginning Feb. 11 at a cost of $30. For information call 432-6136.
