---- — DERRY — Planning officials got an early look last week at projects that are on the radar as part of the town’s Capital Improvement Plan.
Town Administrator John Anderson and chief financial officer Frank Childs gave a preliminary list of some of the proposed projects for fiscal year 2014.
Anderson said town department heads provided information on what they thought was needed as part of the CIP spending plan.
He stressed this was just an early draft presentation of CIP requests and not all plans would be approved as part of the town’s final budget in May.
“It’s a very preliminary plan,” he said.
Some projects making the early list include $90,000 to fund an updated photographic fly-over of the town through the Geographic Information Systems program. This is done very five years.
Another project requested is $377,403 to replace the marked police cruiser fleet. This is done every three years, Anderson said, and is funded by a capital lease.
Other projects call for $81,500 to purchase two new dump trucks; $110,000 to replace a loader at the transfer station; and a $83,000 request from Derry Public Library officials hoping to upgrade the HVAC systems from oil to natural gas.
“The cost of (natural gas) is so much cheaper,” Anderson said.
He said there is a possibility of tying nearby Grinnell Elementary and Gilbert H. Hood Middle School into a natural gas link if the library goes online.
Other capital improvement funding deals with the transfer station upgrades still being designed and finalized and the Route 28 water/sewer project.
There will be bonding for these projects, Childs said.
CIP projects and numbers can change as the budget season moves forward, officials noted. The Town Council will finalize the budget in May, including final CIP tallies.
