Community center offers lots of options

---- — DERRY — They are the games people play.

On winter afternoons, seniors are gathering at the Marion Gerrish Community Center at 39 West Broadway to enjoy cards, free movies and other activities.

Every day, there is time for seniors to gather to play games like bridge, Uno and cribbage.

A new group, Forty Fives, started recently.

There is something for everyone, center director Sarah Garvin said.

“We’re off to a good start,” she said Friday afternoon, noting there were two full tables of people playing cards.

Another group enjoyed a free movie with popcorn in an upstairs meeting room.

Garvin wants to get the word out to seniors that there is always something good going on at the community center.

The weekly game schedule is as follows: Monday, bridge, 12:30 to 3 p.m.; Tuesday, all games group, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Uno, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.; Friday, bridge and Forty Fives from 1 to 4 p.m.

All games are free and open to the public

The free movies are held the last Friday of every month at noon with soda, popcorn and coffee provided.

In addition, Meals on Wheels serves hot meals Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m., with a suggested donation of $2.
