---- — Flower show advice

Derry Garden Club members are learning the fine points of floral and tablescape design. Many members have won awards at flower shows for their efforts.

At a recent meeting, members were critiqued on their designs by Michelle Mensinger, who has won numerous honors for her floral designs.

One point to remember: Always have tablecloths ironed for judging.

“We always bring along an ironing board to the flower show,” Mensinger said.

Think snow

It’s still autumn, but the snowy days are coming.

At least that’s what the Frost Festival Committee is hoping for as it plans for the annual winter event.

The 2013 Frost Festival is set for Feb. 15-17 and includes a weekend schedule of sledding, skating, ice sculptures and children’s activities.

Automatic deposit?

Someone at a Bank of America ATM is not satisfied with the experience or has a strange allergy.

Somebody called the Londonderry Police Department to report a suspicious person blowing his nose on purpose on the ATM at the Shell Station on Nashua Road.

The subject was described as wearing a red hat and red shirt, but nobody was found was police arrived.

Crying fowl

While U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner made an appearance Monday at the Derry Republican office, a not-so-feathered friend also made his presence known.

A protester dressed in a Big Bird suit arrived at the office during Boehner’s visit, standing outside holding signs against Mitt Romney’s recent remarks about wanting to cut federal funding to PBS, Big Bird’s employer, if elected.

A view from the hill

On a clear day the view from the hill in East Derry is spectacular.
