Firefighters honored

Firefighters were honored recently for their efforts during a fire in Derry. The annual Committee of Merit Award rewarded members of Derry’s Engine #4 and Derry Medic #1 with unit citations for their work during a fire June 27 on Walnut Hill Road.

Those honored were Jonathan Robertson, Greg Laro and Keith Munroe, Robert Degroot and James Richardson.

Responding to a call, crews found a vehicle heavily damaged, with fire engulfing the rear of the vehicle. The driver was trapped inside. Crews got the door open and rescued the driver, who is now fully recovered.

The unit citation is given to a group of firefighters operating together and performing meritorious service at the scene of a fire or emergency.

Town Administrator John Anderson heralded the firefighters’ bravery and good work.

“They were among a very distinguished group of individuals from all over the state of New Hampshire,” Anderson said. “They were recognized for saving lives.”
