Free energy seminar planned April 26

Derry Public Library and Derry’s Energy/Environmental Advisory Committee host a free seminar on how to save on energy in the home. The event is April 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at the library.

Participants will learn about ways to save money by using simple and inexpensive methods in the home. Tom Minnon will lead the discussion and has more than 35 years experience in energy conservation and renewable energy. Preregistration is not required. Call 721-2994 for information.

Taylor Library offers story hours

Taylor Library in East Derry is taking registrations for its story time schedule for children. Story times are offered for ages 6 months up to age 5.

The sessions last eight weeks.

Lions Club to host fishing derby

Derry’s Lions Club hosts its annual Kids Fishing Derby May 2 at Hood Pond. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with fishing action from 8 a.m. to noon for ages 2 up to 15 years of age.

Entrance to the derby is free, but donations are welcome to defray the cost of stocking the pond.

Ribbons will be given to participants and trophies will be awarded to top anglers in different age groups.

Garden club hosts plant sale

Derry Garden Club’s annual plant sale is May 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 58 East Broadway.

The sale will be held rain or shine. There will be many plants to choose from. Proceeds support the club’s civic projects and other missions.

Hazardous waste collection set

Residents of Londonderry and Derry can participate in a household hazardous waste collection event May 3 from 9 a.m. to noon at West Running Brook Middle School in Derry.

Materials including pesticides, cleaners, photo chemicals, poisons, pool chemicals, solvents, antifreeze, gasoline, oil-based paints, thinners and driveway sealer are among the items accepted. Items not accepted include batteries, latex paints, explosives, ammunition, used oil or infectious waste.
