Derry farmers market makes its move

By Julie Huss

---- — DERRY — The market is on the move.

The Derry Farmers Market has moved around the corner to its new location through October at the Derry Feed and Supply parking lot on Martin Street.

Several regular market vendors will finish up this month at the new space. Markets are held every Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m.

A winter market will then take place beginning in December at Upper Village Hall in East Derry.

Acting Town Administrator Larry Budreau said the market is no longer under the town’s control. That includes the market manager job, now held by Beverly Ferrante.

“It is no longer sponsored by the town,” he said.

With the market split, Budreau said there are still some details to work out, including the fact that vendors selling at the market will be subject to licensing fees.

The fourth annual market began in June on a positive note, even after the town voted to cut its financial support from $20,800 to $5,000 for this fiscal year..

Following that decision, Ferrante said she would work hard to make sure the market continued, with or without town support.

The move to East Derry will continue for next summer’s market as well. Ferrante said the East Derry Village Improvement Society will be a good partner to help support the market. That group also oversees the care and upkeep of the historic hall.
