DERRY — It’s almost time to start talking budgets.
Derry School Board members heard details of the upcoming budget meeting schedule set to begin Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Gilbert H. Hood Middle School library.
The school district’s Fiscal Advisory Committee, made up of volunteers, will be part of the budget process, giving information and input to district officials as the numbers begin to shape up.
Business administrator Jane Simard said the committee is a valuable asset this time of year.
“Their input is very much appreciated,” she said.
She said she has received preliminary budget information and requests already from schools.
Budget committee meetings will continue on Nov. 4, Nov. 13, Nov. 18, Dec. 4, Dec. 11 and Dec. 18, all beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Hood library. The public is welcome to attend.
Simard said it’s a long process, but always informative.
“Our mission is always to be fiscally sound and responsible, putting forth a budget that will suit the needs of students and staff,” she said, “and always being mindful of taxpayers and what the overall budget looks like.”
Once the budget is tightened and numbers are set, Simard will present the numbers at a future School Board meeting. A public hearing will follow, leading up to the annual school deliberative session when voters can hear more details prior to voting in March at the polls.
