DERRY — Norma Helbig is 94 years young.
The woman is in good physical condition, but needs a little help from time to time.
That’s where Community Caregivers of Greater Derry comes in to help.
The local organization gives clients like Helbig a helping hand with light chores, transportation and friendship as part of its network of volunteers.
Caregivers gives help to clients in towns all over the area. Last week, volunteers and clients were celebrated during the annual holiday luncheon.
Robyn Olson and her daughter Autumn, 9, are Helbig’s support system, sharing time with the woman and helping her with things she may not be able to do anymore.
“We’ve been doing this for four years now,” Olson said.
Volunteers like Olson received recognition awards during the luncheon.
Caregivers always needs more volunteers to pair with clients needing different levels of help. It’s Careigvers’ mission to keep as many elderly and disabled people independent in their homes.
